Dominate The Office With The Emperor Workstation

The Emperor Workstation might be made for die hard video gamers, but imagine how much work you could get done on one of these everyday…that’s at least like 20 TPS reports or something.

This bad boy is a a “ergonomical solution that enhances comfort, productivity, and gaming work experience” by giving you features such as three TFT displays, light therapy, THX-sound, an air filter, and possibly an overinflated geek ego. Oh and in case you were wondering how you get into this thing, a simple push of a button makes the arm holding the displays lift up to allow for your magnificent exit.

Eclipse Office Partitioning System

The Eclipse Office Partioning System is considered the future of cubicle workspaces by some.

Not only does it roll around and look like a mini-spaceship (sort of..if you squint your eyes), but it comes with all sorts of high tech stuff. For example, the top shade can be projected onto, meaning the operator of the system can visually project themselves into any environment they please…like a intergalatic space battle. The Eclipse also comes with video cameras, integrated speakers, and embedded lights.

Sadly, the Eclipse Office Partitioning System by Marcus ward Curran is a mere concept at the moment, so for now you’ll just have to throw a blanked over your cubicle and pretend your in one.

Connect with nature at work.

Summer is officially upon us, and if you are lucky enough to work by a window, then you have probably started fantasizing about running out of the office and rolling around in the grass…Ok that’s probably just me, but it I’m sure most will agree that it has become harder to focus now that the days are brighter and the weather is perfect for…well anything besides sitting at work. While you probably can’t get out of your job duties, you could at least bring nature closer to you with the Sensory Lamp by Sara Rossbach.

The Sensory Lamp is meant to enhance creativity and productivity by creating a closer relationship between our work environment and nature.  The lamp has lights that mimic the natural day cycle, slowly changing in color and intensity throughout the day.

The smell of the grass, along with the act of nurturing the grass acts as a sort of therapy and increases work productivity and happiness.

Anger Release Machine

anger_release_machine_3.jpg

The snack vending machine has long been a favorite hang out for office workers.  Often containing choice delectables like mini-donuts, fruit snacks, chocolate candies, and a variety of potato chips, the vending machine can usually offer a treat to fit any mood.  However, there come days when a Hershey bar just won’t do, those days where everything seems to be going wrong, and you just want to go break something.

The solution to this problem comes in the form of the Passive Aggressive Anger Release Machine, an interactive sculpture by Yarisal and Kublitz.   Simply insert a coin into the Anger Release Machine, and feel your anger fade away as a piece of China slowly moves forward until it is released and falls to the bottom of the machine and shatters.

Right Side Up Water Dispenser.

upright-water-dispenser.jpg
Have you ever tried replacing the water tank on a typical office water dispenser?  If yes, then you know how absurdly hard it is to get the water tank into the dispenser cabinet without fumbling and spilling a gallon of water all over yourself.  Well luckily someone finally got fed up and did offices around the world a favor by making the Right Side Up Water Dispenser

The Executive Desk - Only For Executives

executive-desk.jpg

Did you get a big raise recently, along with a new bigger office? Then perhaps you are on the market for a new office desk that will properly exemplify your new elevated status in the company. Well if if your raise involves a new sign on your office that reads CEO then I may have found your what you’re looking for.

The Executive Desk is a fully functional visual and kinetic desk by artist Dale Mathis that is perfect for the man who needs to see the bigger picture of how things work, and who doesn’t mind spending a measly $21,000. Aside from the fancy woodwork and intricate moving gears, the desk also features trays for your keyboard and mouse, which in my opinion in simply not incorporated into enough desk designs.

Digital Plant Pot

digital_plant_pot1.jpg
As you may recall, I recently gave some tips on how to apply Feng Shui to your cubicle, one of which was to add a plant to your desk to symbolize the growth of success. Well I took my own advice, but sadly I have not had much success taking care of it. Between all the phone-calls, emails, staff meetings, and last minute projects, I keep forgetting to water the plant. Which is why I am rooting for this Digital Plant Pot concept by Junyi Heo to materialize. It diagnoses your plants health by measuring soil conditions, temperature, humidity, and water levels. It will even drain excess amounts of water! As with anything that is awesome these days, it is USB powered. More pics after the jump!

My new chair..i wish

smartchair.jpg

Ok so yesterday I said that I wouldn’t trade my Herman Miller Aeron chair for anything, but if the Smartchair ever gets made I might change my mind.  The chair comes with a dozen embedded sensors, an adjustable seating pad, a headrest that adjusts to your movement, and touch screen control for manual adjustments…perfect for those of us who have been dreaming of decorating our cubicle like a spaceship.

My so-called ergonomic office chair

                                 aeron.jpg
So I just discovered that the chair I have been sitting in at my desk for the past 8 months, a Herman Miller Aeron chair, won “Design of the Decade” by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and Business Week magazine. Apparently it promotes healthier posture and enhanced lower-back comfort through an ergonomic solution named PostureFit, and a Pellicle suspension system that distributes weight and conforms to each person’s shape.

There are a few things that come to mind given this recent discovery:

  1. Considering how absurdly expensive these are, I am both shocked, and pleasantly impressed by the fact that my employer supplied our entire office with these.
  2. Considering how absurdly expensive these are, the awards it has won, and the fact that it is promoted as an ergonomic chair that promotes ‘healthier posture’, I am wondering why I constantly leave work with a back-ache.
  3. Why, after 8 months, has my chair yet to conform to my shape?

To be fair, I will admit that the chair is extremely comfortable, and I probably wouldn’t trade it. Does anybody else use one of these? What’s your experience?
