Robotic Office Chair
Herman Millers new Embody office chair may very well be the cutting edge of technology in terms of comfort and ergonomics, but if for some reason you are looking for a chair that can give you the comforting feeling of “being held in someone’s arms”, look no further than this prototype Leopard chair from Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd.
Based on Oki’s Robot Leg walking robot, the motorized chair perches up in the air when empty, and waits anxiously for you to come sit down, at which point the leg contracts and the chair falls back. Even better, when you want to get up the chair will begin to lift in order to assist you to get on your feet.
Sounds pretty fancy to me, although until they add an instant coffee maker to the chair I’m probably not interested.
Oki hopes to release the Leopard Office Chair in May 2009.
